Law enforcement officers from Laare Police Station have arrested six more suspects linked to a shocking gang rape that occurred on December 1, 2025, in Laare Town, Igembe North Sub-County.
The arrests come as police continue to pursue all those responsible for the attack.
According to the statement by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), members of the public alerted authorities on the day of the incident, after witnessing a young woman being gang raped by men participating in a traditional circumcision procession.
Officers quickly responded to the scene, finding the victim “in a state of utter despair; her clothes torn, and her spirit bruised.” She was immediately taken to Nyambene Hospital for medical care.
Police later launched a wide-ranging manhunt using forensic leads in Irinde, Lubwa, and Kiarama areas following the attack, leading to the successful arrests of six suspects.
The six suspects include Dennis Mwirigi, Ismael Gichuge, Elijah Muriki, Isaac Ntomauta, Joseph Marete, and Phineas Mutali.
“These six now join three suspects previously arrested on December 1, 2025,” DCI said in a statement. “All are currently in custody and undergoing processing pending arraignment.”
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and remain “relentlessly focused on identifying and apprehending additional suspects involved in this heinous crime, ensuring that no perpetrator evades justice.”
Authorities have vowed to leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice for the victim, whose ordeal has shocked the local community.
The DCI have also urged anyone with information about the incident to anonymously share to help secure justice for the victim. The swift arrests highlight the critical role of public vigilance and timely reporting.
As the investigation continues, police assure the community that all measures will be taken to hold the perpetrators accountable and ensure justice for the survivor of this horrific crime.
